Have you ever wondered why people say that music speaks to the heart in ways words cannot express? You are invited to find out in our upcoming speech “Telling Taiwan’s Love Stories Through Old Songs.”
We are pleased to announce that on September 27, Jenny Chen, a researcher of Taiwanese folk and popular music, will lead us through stories to review Taiwan’s music history over the past one hundred years.
Mrs. Chen will present to us some traditional folk music, the chosen school songs (學堂樂歌) from the 1910’s, pop music from the 1930’s, and familiar melody from The Galaxy Stars Show (群星會) as well as campus folk rock (校園民歌) from the 1980’s. While enjoying the music and the love stories behind these songs, the audience will also learn how music reflects social changes and cultural diversity on this beautiful island.
Jenny Chen has an M.A. in musicology. She used to produce local music programs for National Theatre and Concert Hall and write columns and articles for the United Daily News. As a diplomat’s wife, Mrs. Chen has spent many years abroad. Since coming back to Taiwan last year, she has focused her research on modern music history of her home country, Taiwan. Presently she serves as a lecturer in Beitou Community college.

台北市迎新會謹訂於本(2017)年九月二十七日(星期三)下午兩點假〝外交及國際事務學院〞二樓國際會議廳，邀請音樂學者王維真女士為我們主講。她將精選十多首在台灣傳唱不歇的歌曲並述說其背後的故事，讓我們認識台灣豐富的｢音樂生命力｣。
王維真女士，政大外交系畢業，研究所念的卻是音樂學。曾任職國家戲劇院暨音樂廳及聯合報系，擔任過節目製作、文化記者、副刊編輯等工作。過去二、三十年來一直在台灣音樂這塊領域中耕耘，更因為夫婿任職中華民國外交工作，始終關心台灣文化。
2016年再度回到台灣居住後，將研究焦點集中在 ｢台灣近代音樂史｣上。
本次演講將回看過去一百多年來台灣音樂的時空區塊，包括 : 傳統音樂、學堂樂歌、1930年代的台語流行歌曲、1960年代的群星會及1980年代的校園民歌。讓我們一起從台灣音樂的歷史，解析台灣多元文化的融合，並鳥瞰台灣人文之美。
音樂寫在時間的流動中，時間不斷流逝，音樂卻留下無數歡唱的記憶與文化的印痕。音樂可以療癒、可以陪伴一生，歡迎您來聆賞聽講!
