On a pleasant spring day in Taipei, ladies of all nationalities gathered at Samwon Garden to enjoy a beautiful Korean feast for both the palate and the eyes.

In cooperation with The International Cooking Demonstration Interest Group of WTIC, Representative Yang Chang-Soo of the Korean Mission in Taipei and Madame Yang organized this gourmet presentation on May 5, 2017. Starting from 11 am, the Yangs, dressed up in traditional Korean costumes, extended a warm welcome to the 54 guests arriving at the gate. As they entered the restaurant, everyone’s eyes were drawn to the beautiful flower arrangements on the tables—a vibrant reminder of spring’s arrival. Madame Yang had personally made all the arrangements the day before. With skill, artistry, and meticulousness, she combined pink and white carnations with yellow chrysanthemums and purple hydrangeas in glass vessels. The arrangements were completed by slender leaves of different shades of green. As one looked at the arrangements, it felt like stepping into a blossoming garden.

When all guests were seated, WTIC President Madame Lee welcomed them, saying that she had been expecting this event since learning of it. She believed this would be a great opportunity for the WTIC members to have a close encounter with Korean food and culture. Representative Yang also gave greetings, emphasizing that the most authentic and traditional Korean cuisine would be demonstrated in front of the guests’ eyes. The two parties then exchanged gifts, and moments later the demonstration began. The ladies were separated into two groups, observing and learning first-hand how bibimbap (mixed seasoned rice), bulgogi (marinated beef) and pajeon (seafood pancake) were cooked by two experienced chefs. The ladies then switched stations. Amid laughter, applause and sound of rumbling stomachs, these three delicious dishes were finally finished and passed around for the ladies to sample.

At 1 pm, everyone sat down to the six-course luncheon. Guests were amazed at the variety of constantly replenished appetizers served, as well as the harmonious color-matching of the bowls, plates and food. Of course, everyone was impressed by the scrumptious flavors of the dishes. All in all, the guests enjoyed a well-balanced meal that included fresh and pickled vegetables, tender beef and tasty seafood. This was truly an unforgettable feast.
