03/01/2023 Opening Ceremony of Belize Culture Month and Women’s Month

On March 1st, WTIC Honorary Member H.E. Ambassador Candice Pitts of Belize inaugurated the “Belize Culture Month and Women’s Month” exhibit at the National Central Library.  In celebration of 2023 International Women’s Day, the month-long exhibition recognizes and highlights contribution by women to Belizean culture, history and development.  The exhibition includes artwork by Belizean women artists, woven tapestry by Belizean Indigenous Mayan women, and sculptures that celebrate the beauty of Belizean women.

International Women’s Day honors the cultural, economic, historical and political accomplishments of women all over the world.  The 2023 Women’s Day theme embraces equity for women.  H.E. Ambassador Pitts, herself, is an accomplished diplomat, politician and educator.  She was among a very small number of women elected to public office in Belize.  She was and remains a strong advocate on women empowerment and children welfare programs.  During the opening ceremony, H.E. Ambassador Pitts, along with our WTIC immediate past-President Jeannie Tien, Honorary Member H.E. Ambassador Andrea Bowman, and several other women in the foreign service community received a Mayan table runner recognizing their valuable contributions to society and the world.
