The Reception of the Special Exhibition of Tibetan Buddhist Art in the National Palace Museum Collection
2016.05.02

The Reception is one of a series of activities of the Tibetan Culture & Art Festival that stretches from April to November. More than forty members signed up for this evening event, and were told that this is a rare exhibition of the finest collection of Tibetan Buddhist artifacts in the National Palace Museum.

Mme. Ming-chu Fung, Director of the National Palace Museum, Ms. Yu-ling Tsai,Minister of Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission, and Mr. Meng-chi Hung, Minister of the Culture Ministry delivered speeches respectively. It was followed by an opening dance- the Cham Dance (金剛舞祈福) performed by the Nyagyur Hearing, Contemplation & Meditation Administrative Dharma Chackra Center (中華民國寧瑪巴聞思修佛學會). Two beautiful songs were performed by Mr. Tenzin Kunsang; the high-pitched bronze pipes and trumpets have a unique sound. Then three cylindrical ceremonial artifacts were brought on stage for showcase, and distinguished guests were called on stage to spin the Dharma Wheel, which the Tibetan believes it will bring good health and wealth.

After the opening ceremony, all guests were divided into small groups and each group was assigned a guide to view the lavishly ornamented Buddhist sutras, paintings, ritual objects, and gilt-bronze statues. They are intricate and beautiful!

In the end, a Tibetan buffet was served, and we tried the Tibetan butter tea, some pastry and steamed beef ravioli with a twist of Tibetan seasoning, as well as deserts.

It was indeed a feast of sights, splendor and food!
