It is my great honor to be invited to make a brief report on the History of Welcome to Taipei International Club.
In 1985, when my husband Frederik Chien was representing our country in Washington, D.C., I was an active honorary member of Welcome to Washington International Club. Shortly after the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Club, the President told me that her Board had unanimously decided to invite Taipei to form the first sister Club in Asia.
I was very happy and immediately contacted Mrs. Patricia Wen, wife of General Wen Ha-Hsiung who was Head of the Military Procurement Mission of the Republic of China in D. C., close to 20 years.
I was very fortunate to have Mrs. Wen’s full support. Under her gracious leadership and dedication, the Welcome to Taipei International Club was established in 1986. Ever since then, more than 300 members, both Chinese and International, have enjoyed cultural activities and interesting programs offered by the Club.
On this auspicious occasion, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Mrs. Patricia Wen, and all the leaders of the Club and their Board members, especially to the most hardworking Secretary General Vivienne Shen and her most supportive “ executive committee members”. Last but not the least, I wish to thank our dear members for your enthusiastic participation.
