2016 Annual Registration Luncheon
2015.12.08

The warm winter sun and turquoise blue sky greeted our members to the WTIC 2016 Annual Registration Luncheon, held on December 8th, 2015, at the Formosa Regent Taipei Hotel. It is the time of year to harvest fruitful friendships among members, through various programs and Interest Groups that our Board and Working Teams have put tremendous efforts in planning and executing, assuring our members of the very best. It is also an important time for members to renew their membership, and sign up for the thirteen Interest Groups we currently have established. Another sacred task of the day is for the eligible voters to re-elect the 2016 Board of Supervisors and Board of Directors.

To draw up the curtain of today’s program, WTIC President Jine Jeou Kao delivered a warm welcome speech, expressing her thanks of support from the Board and members, and recounted the wonderful memories and friendships she has had the pleasure of experiencing during her term. Executive Secretary, Vivienne Shen, presented the 2015 annual report and the 2016 tentative program, followed by the treasurer’s review of 2015 financial statement and budget for 2016, both of which received applause by means of expressing approval. Our team member Jie Lee also took to the podium to announce the name of our newly-elected 2016 President, Chih-husan Lee Ho, as well as the list of names of the 2016 Board of Supervisors and Board of Directors.

The highlight of today’s program came when the room suddenly plunged into darkness, and the performers from the Diabolo Dance Theatre emerged onto the stage. Behind the dancers, the screen lit the room with colorful lights and impressive audiovisual projections that highlighted the impeccable skills of the performers. The crowd looked on in awe and wonder as the performers tossed the colorful fluorescent diabolos up into the air, and swiftly caught it using two sticks joined by a string. The Diabolo Dance Theatre was founded in 1986 by a group of young diabolists, which over the years has grown and gotten international acclaim, and has had performances in over 30 countries. It was truly a joy to have invited these talented young artists to showcase this ancient Chinese juggling art form to our dear members.

With Christmas just around the corner, our Chorus Interest Group members also graced the stage performing a selection of beautiful songs. Their conductor Mme. Mei-yen Kao even invited the audience to sing along to their rendition of “Silent Night”, it was the perfect ending note to the day’s performances. It is indeed a joyous time of the year to send an earnest holiday greeting to all our members, and we look forward seeing you all after the vacation.
