Incredible India-International Cooking Demonstration~
Incredible India--印度美食饗宴
2015.10.19

An Indian Cooking Demonstration was held at the Howard Plaza in the banquet hall organized by the Welcome to Taipei International Club on the 19th of October 2015. The event was well attended by members and friends from WTIC many of whom were dressed in vibrant and beautiful Indian outfits including the President, Mrs. J.J. Kao.

As hostess of the event, along with my colleagues and spouses from the India-Taipei Association, I wished to familiarize our friends to the vast variety in Indian cuisine and to demonstrate the simple effortless way of cooking some dishes. Hopefully the demonstration has inspired many of our friends to cook Indian food in their own kitchens!

The event started with remarks by Co-Chair Ms Louise Bystrom. Thereafter, I welcomed the guests as well and along with Mrs Nirmala Kandpal, demonstrated the preparation of famous Tandoori Chicken, Mango lassi and the masala chai, which are found quite commonly in the food in the north of India. After the food demonstration, we were all treated to foot-tapping dance performances - the first was a classical Odissi dance piece invoking the blessings of Lord Ganesh, gracefully performed by Ms. Tracy Fang. The second performance was a fusion- a classical Kathak dance piece on a Bollywood rendition, accomplished beautifully by Ms. Theresa. The final act was an outstanding group dance by Ms. Kushi Lo & troupe on Bollywood song medley. We could see several ladies swaying to the beat. After the performances, the guests had the opportunity to get themselves photographed with our distinguished performers who were wearing beautiful costume along with all the refinements.

There was also the opportunity to shop! There was a display of colorful Indian outfits, jewelry, spices, condiments, henna designs/tattoos, and environmentally friendly chic jute bags. The ladies also took away with them personalized Polaroid photographs as memoir for the lovely time spent with friends.

As for the lunch, the Howard hotel laid out a lavish Indian buffet right from starters like samosa, a variety of curries and scrumptious desserts.
