WTIC 2015 Lunar New Year Luncheon

2015.3.3

Welcome to Taipei International Club hosted its 2015 Lunar New Year Luncheon on Tuesday, March 3rd. More than 160 members and guests cheerfully gathered to ring in the year of the Sheep at The Formosa Regent Hotel. Friends of the diplomatic community came together to reconnect and bond over this joyful celebration.

This year, the program began with the day’s highlight, a colorful International Traditional Costume Show by members of Diplomatic Corp, proudly showing their national spirit. The audience was floored by an array of unique and exquisite costumes from 15 different countries.  Presenters included Ambassador of El Salvador Marta Chang de Tsien, who elegantly carried herself in a beautiful red costume vibrantly displaying the warmth of El Salvadorian spirit. The Representative of Korea, Baek Sang Cho and his spouse Madame Enda Chung Cho shined hand in hand in their traditional Korean Hanbok.  The Indonesian gold wedding dress and the Swazi leather wedding dress were also jaw-dropping show-stoppers.

The program continued with another important tradition of the WTIC New Year Luncheon--the Interest Groups’ year-end performances.  These included a powerful Kung Fu Performance by the Tai Chi Chuang Group led by Alison Tsai and a hot and saucy Bachata Dance by the Salsa Group that sizzled and filled the audience with yearnings to get up and sway with the talented dancers.    And last but not least, the Chorus Group led by Mei Yen Kao, gave a heartwarming performance with their angelic voices and notable songs like “望春風",  “茉莉花” and  “One day when we were young”.

TWTIC President, Jine Jeou Kao, spouse of the Deputy Minister of Foreign affairs, warmly greeted our members and guests, wishing all a prosperous and happy year of the Sheep. This goodwill message was accompanied by a lion dance that charmed the audience, who responded with waves of applause and laughter.

The Lunar New Year Luncheon program was completed by a raffle drawing with three lucky members.  But without a doubt, the best part of the celebration was enjoyment of good company over delicious cuisine and sweet conversation. It was certainly a fabulous way to kick off to this sensational year of the Sheep.
