WTIC, India-Taipei Association organize India cuisine event

The International Cooking Demonstration Group of Welcome to Taipei International Club (WTIC), in collaboration with the India-Taipei Association, organized an event to showcase Indian cuisine and culture at The Howard Plaza Hotel recently, according to a WTIC press release.

The event included a fashion show, an introduction to Indian spices, an Indian masala tea demonstration and a lunch buffet that offered various Indian dishes. It was coordinated by Shruti Rawat, spouse of the Indian Representative to Taipei, Pradeep Kumar Rawat and her team. Over one hundred guests from different walks of life, including the diplomatic circle attended the event, the WTIC said.

The opening act of the event was a fashion show that showcased traditional Indian Sari, a 5 1/2-yard strip of cloth wrapped around the waist with one end over the shoulder. Seven pieces from various regions of India exhibited the rich and delicate thread-work on both traditional and modern ensembles, said the WTIC.

An Indian buffet which consisted of delicacies such as Samosas (炸香料餃), Dal Makhani (扁豆咖哩), Palak Paneer (菠菜起司), Goa Fish Curry (果阿咖哩魚), Jeera Rice (印度香料飯) and Naan (坦都烤餅) was a fitting epilogue to the proceedings. India's famous rice pudding, Kheer (米布丁) was served as dessert and, to top it all off, a hot cup of Masala Tea was also provided, the WTIC said.

The appreciation of Indian culture was overwhelming and the efforts of the India-Taipei Association team were lauded, according to the WTIC.
