In the early morning of April 25th, 2013, although the weather was less than perfect, 107 members and guests, including 30 diplomatic spouses, did not hesitate to set out for Nan Yuan Retreat located in the town of Hsinpu in Hsinchu County. An elegant recreation garden designed in the traditional Chinese architectural style and layout with modern features.

In the surroundings of nature, all the 107 chattering minds started to sense the much needed calmness as they toured around this heaven like park. Nan Yuan's extensive use of red bricks and red tiles in the building facade, roofs and floors were lively contrasts between the greenery backdrops of the plants. Even though the rain made it more challenging to have a clearer look around the park, the misty fog along with the sound of rain added a deeper poetic sentiment as the attendees enjoyed the exquisitely presented lunch, overlooking the beautiful court yard.

After lunch, the whole group made their way toward "the Republic of Chocolate ", another total indulgence for the oral senses. Upon arrival at this grand chocolate-like building, the group was warmly greeted by a line of company staff, clapping to welcome everybody. 　A guided tour started from viewing the process of chocolate making, then led to further learning of cocoa trees from their special-designed exhibition. By this time, the cocoa aroma has gotten all of us ready for the much anticipated afternoon tea, where Republic of Chocolate prepared plenty varieties of chocolate pastries to pair with hot chocolate, tea and coffee. Many participants couldn't wait to take the delightful treats home to share with their family and friends as they treasured hunted in the chocolate retail shop.

This spring excursion was a wonderful nourishing retreat for the mind and the body. The 107 happy and content hearts were well pampered and eagerly look forward to our next gathering.
