WCI President Padimini Durr Visited Taipei Oct.12,2008

Mme. Padimini Durr, President of the Welcome Clubs International, and Mrs. Meiko Bailey visited Taiwan on October 9, 2008. WTIC is the very first sister club she visited after her election to the presidency. President Hou Li Chih-hsuan was her hostess in Taipei and accompanied her to see the scenic beauty of northern Taiwan.

Mme. Durr participated in a tea party given by the National Women’s League of the R.O.C. on the day she arrived at the Regent Hotel. She also attended the Double Ten reception as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mme. Faye Fang, the Executive Director of the WTIC, hosted a luncheon in President Durr’s honor on October 12. The WTIC Vice President Alice Huang, Executive Supervisor Julie Chien, Supervisors Patricia Wen, Gwendolyn Chien, Athenia Kuo, Executive Director Lily Chiu, and Director Yvonne Wang, also joined the party.

President Durr considered that cultural exchange is the way to achieve the WCI’s circular motto “Friendship through understanding, and understanding through friendship”. She gave a speech and demonstration on Indian dance at the Dancing Department of Chinese Culture University on October 13. A luncheon after the speech was hosted by the Zonta International District 31.

President Durr enjoyed her visit very much, and had a very nice impression of Taiwan. She said that Taiwan is a wonderful, democratic, progressive, and friendly country.
