Chinese New Year Luncheon Feb. 20, 2008

The WTIC entertained international and local members with a jubilant program with Chinese New Year characteristics and a banquet at the Formosa Regent Taipei on February 20, 2008. One hundred and fifty participants including special guests attended this event. At the entrance of the Grand Ballroom, everyone whose interest was aroused passed a demonstration table to observe the master chef of the Regent Hotel hand make Chinese desserts. Mr. Shi-wei Chen also demonstrated Chinese calligraphic writing of Chinese Spring Festival scrolls. An exhibition of Chinese paintings by the WTIC members attracted the attention and amazed all the guests, as they entered the ballroom.

President Chih-hsuan Li Hou said in her welcome speech that February was really a month for “family, love, and friendship.” The Chinese Lunar New Year was blessed with the western Valentine’s Day – What a wonderful combination of east and west! To creat a link between east and west and a feeling of home for our foreign members are important goals of the WTIC. The ladies enjoyed ancient Chinese traditions dating back thousands of years. They expressed their gratitude to President Chih-hsuan Li Hou and the club’s founders, Mrs. Patricia Wen and Mrs. Julie Chien.

Several traditional Chinese shows followed including the playing of Chinese musical instrument, a tri-vocal by Mrs. Mei-yen Liu Kao, Zuei-zong Lin, Claire Tang, Melody Yang accompanied by pianist Doris Shih. Seven students of fifth-grade and sixth-grade from the Min Dao Elementary School in Mu Cha received appreciation from the members for their magical performance with wooden diabolos and strings. The vocal acclaim was heard throughout the performance, which added to the joyful ambiance. A lottery drawing was ongoing while the guests were eating. The Chinese New Year Luncheon Party ended happily with the WTIC guests holding a piggy lantern or a token from the lottery provided by the Board members to say farewell to a spectacular event.
